‘Impossible to imagine’: CCTV images show moment Salford shop assistant had knife to throat – for just £20

By Jonathan Levy

A shop assistant at a Salford convenience store had a knife held under her chin by a robber – for just £20.

The man posed as a customer at the Farmfoods store on Market Way, before grabbing the shop assistant and threatening her with a knife.

After demanding the till be opened, he took the money and ran towards Brydon Close. The incident happened at 7pm on November 28.

Now police have released CCTV images of the suspect in the hope that someone will recognise him.

Detective Constable Paul Reynolds said: “Unless you yourself have been a victim of this sort of violent crime it would be impossible to imagine the distress this woman felt with a knife pressed to her chin – and all for just £20.

“That means we are looking for a very desperate individual who may strike again if he is so badly in need of money.”

The man is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, with a slim build, pale complexion and short black hair. He is in his mid-20s, wearing a dark tracksuit and black scarf, which covered the bottom of his face.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5250 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
