By Andrew Bardsley

Bomb disposal experts have been called in to remove a suspicious package found underneath a Manchester city centre hotel today.

Dozens of police have put a 100metre cordon in place after a suspicious package was found at 7:35 am near the Mecure Manchester Piccadilly hotel on New York Street.

As a result a number of roads are shut in the surrounding area while the incident is dealt with.

A police spokesperson said the incident is likely to affect some bus journeys into the area and they have advised motorists to stay away.
