Fire breaks out as rioters take over the city

Fire has broken out on Manchester’s main shopping street, as violence escalates on the city’s streets.

Flames are billowing out from what appears to be Miss Selfridge and a long-standing burger van on the city’s busy Market Street.

Police are cordoning off the street and moving people away from the fire. They are brandishing batons in an attempt to keep the crowd away from the scene. Smoke is thick in the air.

One bystander said: “It’s gotten completely f***ing crazy in Manchester. Insanity has taken over. Everyone should get out of here – I am.”

Rioters are running in the streets in swarms and were followed closely by riot police on horseback.
