Second man left fighting for life in 48 hours as violent drunken brawls escalate in Wigan

By Lauren Hirst

A second man is fighting for his life after a night out in Wigan less than 48 hours after the first brutal assault.

A 60-year-old man was rushed to Wigan Infirmary hospital after he was found suffering from serious head injuries in the early hours of yesterday morning – he is in a critical condition.

The man is believed to have fallen down a flight of stairs outside popular hotspot Chicago Rock at 1.30pm after a violent dispute took place.

Police are now urging for anyone to come forward with information.

Detective Inspector Martin Reddington, of Wigan CID, said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, however we can say that he was involved in an altercation outside Chicago Rock on King Street and CCTV clearly shows him stumbling backwards across the road and falling to the ground where he bangs his head and receives serious head injuries.”

This is the second serious assault of the weekend after a man was left in a life-threatening condition after an assault in Revolution cocktail bar, just yards away from Chicago Rock bar, on King Street on Saturday.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of the assault of the 32-year-old man in Revolution but charges have yet to be brought.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 7770 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
