‘Terribly missed’: Man, 30, charged with murder of pregnant Rochdale mother who died of fatal stab wounds

A Rochdale man is being charged with the murder of a pregnant mother who died from multiple stab wounds.

Siraj Arif, 31, of Armstrong Hurst Close, was charged by police last night after Saiba Khatoon, 26, was found dead at her home on Monday and her eight-year-old son alerted neighbours.

The family of Ms Khatoon, who was expecting her second child, said she was the ‘best mum in the world’.

Ms Khatoon’s family said: “She was always smiling, was a very happy person and loved practising her faith. She was pregnant with her second child and was looking forward to becoming a mother again.

“Saiba is much loved and will always be remembered by her friends and family. We have lost the best mum in the world, the best daughter, sister and friend a person could ever have.

“She was one of the kindest people you would ever wish to know and always went out of her way to help others. She did not deserve to die in such terrible circumstances.

“The world was a better place with you in it and we will miss you terribly. Until we meet again, my mother, my daughter, my sister, my friend, rest in peace.”

Arif is due to appear at Bury Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Arif and Ms Khatoon are understood to have been in a relationship together.

Detective Chief Inspector David Warren from the Major Incident Team said: “I would like to reassure residents that we do not believe there is any danger to the wider community, as we believe this is an isolated incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
