David Cameron has sanctioned the use of plastic bullets by police in an effort to stop the riots running through Manchester and other cities.
Earlier today the Prime Minister allowed police to use plastic bullets, water cannons and even tear gas should the need arise, saying: “People should be in no doubt that we will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain’s streets and to make them safe for the law-abiding.”
According to reports on Twitter, plastic bullets may have already been used on rioters in Manchester and London tonight.
Forty-seven men have now been arrested in Manchester and Salford already, but Greater Manchester Police – who are tweeting throughout the night on @gmpolice – are still dealing with pockets of troublemakers evading arrest.
