Roads closed after man threatens to jump from car park in Manchester city centre

By Andrew Bardsley

Roads were closed off in Manchester city centre today after reports of a man threatening to jump from the top of a car park near the Arndale Centre.

Officers were called to the Arndale Centre at around 12.45pm but the man had returned to street level before they arrived.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the Arndale Centre after a man was threatening to jump from the car park.

“Before officers arrived at the scene the man had come down and was found on High Street.”

Michelle McCarthy, spokesperson for NCP, who own the car park, said: “Greater Manchester Police alerted NCP to a potential incident at the High Street car park earlier this afternoon.

“NCP team worked closely with the police and the situation was resolved shortly afterwards.

“As always we are grateful to the police for their quick response and for working so closely with our staff.”
