A burglar who slashed the face of a Baguley woman in her own home is being hunted by police.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked at 3pm on April 13, Royal Oak Road, after she heard a noise downstairs and went to investigate.

The intruder used a knife from the kitchen to cut the woman’s cheek and tear into her arm before stealing cash.

Detective Constable Christopher Broad from West Didsbury CID said: “This woman was subjected to a terrifying attack in the sanctity of her own home, a place where she should feel safe.

“Thankfully she was not more seriously injured during this attack but she has understandably been left extremely distressed by what has happened to her.”

The woman attempted to fight back and her aging dog tried to protect her but the man escaped through the back door.

The victim was treated for a slash injury on her right arm and a puncture wound on her left cheek.

Detective Constable Broad added: “Detectives have been working to try and identify the man and we have now released an efit of the suspect. If you recognise the person from this image, please get in touch with us.

“Your information could be vital to our investigation and help us to take this dangerous individual off our streets.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at West Didsbury CID on 0161 856 6152 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
