‘Stupid mistake’: Bolton mum arrested after giving young daughter morphine for toothache

By Dean Wilkins

A young Bolton girl given morphine by her mother to sooth her toothache was rushed to hospital today.

The 12-year-old girl’s mum was arrested by police after her daughter failed to wake up.

The Bolton parent said it was a ‘stupid mistake’ after doctors managed to save the girl – who remains in a stable condition.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police have arrested a 31-year-old woman after a child was taken ill at a house in Deepdale Road, Bolton. The child is currently at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

“The woman was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child. She has been released on police bail until August 13.”

Investigations are continuing.
