A bus has crashed into a Piccadilly pub this afternoon after the driver suffered a suspected stroke at the wheel.

There were no passengers on board, however the Stagecoach off service double decker crashed into the side of The Bull’s Head, near Piccadilly train station.

The police have said the driver has been revived and has since been taken hospital after being pulled out of the vehicle.

All of the emergency services are at the scene and surveyors are due to check over the building later today to ensure it is still stable.

Landlord Keith Wylenm said: “It just happened very, very quickly, you just heard the racing engine and then bang.

“We were due to have a party of thirteen in for 12 o’clock we had the food ready upstairs waiting.”

There is now severe traffic disruption around the Piccadilly area, particularly on London Road, and Granby Row is closed.

“The bus was empty – you could hear the engine revving beforehand. The driver obviously was having health problems,” he added.

A barmaid from the pub said: “I just looked up and saw the bus swerving towards the pub.”
