Good news for dance fans who feel the need for a break from our delightful Northern weather.
Sankeys, one of Manchester’s most popular nightclubs are too open a new venue in dance capital of the world Ibiza this summer.
Following opening on May 24, throughout the summer the club will hold 110 parties across the Sankeys Ibiza club, which will be divided into four dedicated areas, Basement, Spektrum, Boutique and the Terrace.
In the Playa d’en Bossa area of Ibiza, which has undergone extensive remodelling work over the last two years, the club has already booked a huge range of acts and DJ’s to regular or special appearance slots.
David Vincent, the director of Sankeys, said: “This is a dream come true as we open a Sankeys venue in Ibiza. It’s a project we have been working on for some time and it’s going to be an incredible experience.”
We spoke to some Sankeys customers who have also visited Ibiza to find out what they think of a Manchester club opening in the heart of dance-land.
Danny Markie, 25, said: “I’d go. The only thing missing from Manchester is the sun.”
Another dance fan, Joe Dalton, 24, said: “If the acts are as good as they usually are; I’m in.”
“Manchester mentality in the Ibiza sun? Sounds like a perfect match to me,” said Dave Hillard, 26.
Sankeys first opened its doors in 1994, and in the early years played host to acts such as Moby, Bjork, Carl Cox, Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers.
Since its relaunch in 2000, the club, on Radium Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, has gone from strength to strength.
Holding nights of new music, regular guest DJ spots and theme nights, the club has also hosted large scale one-off events at the MEN Arena, Ministry of Sound (London) and Pacha in Ibiza.
David went to say: “I have a special relationship with Ibiza since promoting for the legendary Pacha over 13 years ago – there’s no other place like the island in the world.”
Desribing the move as bringing the first real ‘urban city club’ to Ibiza, Monza Ibiza promoters Ptrik Dechent and Ariel Giordano, said: “We are fascinated with this project and are very excited to work with such a world famous brand like Sankeys.”
Voted the World’s Best Club by readers of DJMag in 2010, the club is also expanding in the other geographic locations, Sankeys NYC is due to open in New York later this year, part of an ongoing project named The Seven Sankeys of the World, which the clubs management hope to acieve by 2015.
A spokesman for the club said: “We have been established in Manchester for a long time now, we have a loyal and growing number of regular customers, and we want to spread our own brand of entertainment around the world.”
