Bolton man who nearly blew hand off in botched explosion arrested – no other bombs found as police ransack homes

A man has been arrested after nearly blowing his hand off during an explosion at a home in Bolton yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a home on Lea Gate, Bolton, following a colossal bang at around 1.20pm – police found a 26-year-old man with serious hand injuries.

Bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the property as a number of neighbouring homes were evacuated.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jackson, said: “I appreciate that given the nature of this incident and the impact it had on those living on Lea Gate there will be some concern among residents, but I want to reiterate that this was an isolated incident and there was not and is not any threat to the wider community.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to this incident and if anyone has any information that can assist I would urge them to get in touch.”

Police also searched two other properties in the Tonge Moor area as part of the investigation.

No explosive items were found at any of the addresses.

The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not life threatening.

He has been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property and remains in a stable condition in hospital.
