‘Brazen and well-executed’: Police hunt sledgehammer-wielding robbers after terrifying raid on Droylsden jewellers

By Jonathan Levy

Four armed robbers threatened staff and smashed display cabinets before stealing jewellery in a terrifying raid at a jewellers in Droylsden.

Shortly before 4pm on Saturday the men, who were wearing balaclavas and were armed with sledgehammers, entered Albermarle Bond on Queens Walk after arriving in a stolen black Seat Leon.

They stole various items of jewellery, including gold bracelets and necklaces.

The men got back in the car and left but were involved in a minor collision with another vehicle near to the store. The car was later found abandoned on Oakfield Avenue.

Detective Constable Joe Harrop said: “This was a brazen and well-executed robbery in broad daylight and while staff and those shopping in or near the store were understandably shaken up, thankfully no one was seriously injured.

“We believe a number of witnesses may have filmed the incident on their mobile phone or other devices and I would urge those who have to contact us.

“I also want to hear from anyone who saw the getaway car involved in a collision or being abandoned as well as anyone who might be offered the jewellery for sale.

“We work closely with local businesses to try to deter incidents such as this, which are thankfully rare, but when they do occur we use all the resources available to us to try and bring offenders to justice. With the public’s help I am confident we can do that on this occasion.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9248, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
