Manchester stars come out for fashion fundraiser

By Kathryn Cummings & Charlotte Duncker

A host of famous faces descended on the Midland Hotel on Saturday night to support a fashionable fundraising event hosted by Key 103’s Justin Moorhouse in aid of the Royal Exchange Theatre.

Actors from Coronation Street and Waterloo Road attended the evening which played host to the first showing, outside of London, of Amanda Wakeley’s Spring/Summer collection.

The designer spoke of her delight at being able to support the Royal Exchange and took to the stage before the start of the show to talk about her new collection.

She said: “You will see a very strong Tribal theme throughout the collection. Everything from the prints to the jewellery and the embellishment on the clothes has tribal influences.”

Ms Wakeley is primarily known for her multi textured evening wear and pared down classic daywear, so her tribal inspired collection came as a surprise to the guests who demonstrated their delight of the new collection with a rapturous applause at the end.

The mocha draped chain maxi dress worth £4575 certainly turned heads and got the guests cheering. Shobna Gulati (Sunita Alahan, Coronation Street) showed her love for the designer by wearing the cobalt block print halter – neck maxi dress which was featured in the show.

Following the fashion show English comedian Ted Robbins held a celebrity auction with once in a lifetime prizes to help raise money for the Royal Exchange.
