‘Reckless’ thug hurls stone through Middleton bus window injuring stunned passenger – police appeal for witnesses

By Jeremy Culley

A vandal who hurled a stone through the window of a bus in Rochdale, cutting the ear of a stunned passenger, is still being hunted by police.

The offender quickly fled the scene after smashing a lower deck window of the 163 bus on Wood Street, Middleton.

A 39-year-old man was injured by the attack – which occurred at around 8.20pm last Friday – after the stone struck him on the side of the head.

PC Andy Kindon, of the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Fortunately the victim only suffered a cut to his ear but he still required hospital treatment and cannot understand why the stone was thrown.

“This was a reckless act that could have had fatal consequences.”

He added that police had no description of the offender because of the pace of the incident but are still urging witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8456 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
