Michael Winner’s Dining Star Justine Forrest joins Jean-Christophe Novelli and Michael Caines at Bolton Food and Drink Festival

World-renowned chefs are adding another ingredient to their recipe in this year’s Bolton Food and Drink Festival by welcoming Justine Forrest.

Justine, who won Michael Winner’s Dining Stars in 2010, declared her support of the event at its launch in front of delighted audience members yesterday.

They were treated to a cookery demo by Justine, who cooked paella, smoked mackerel pate and low fat banana cake with the help of three catering and hospitality students.

She said: “Festivals like these are important for the next generation. I think it’s really important to bring children and families to the festival and show them where food comes from and its diversity.”

This year’s celebrity chef line-up includes Great British Bake Off judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry; Michelin-starred French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, and Yorkshire James Martin.

And Michael Caines will open the festival using local and regional produce as his theme.

The North West’s foodie event of the year attracted around 94,000 people in 2011 and this summer’s is expected to welcome even more.

Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “The festival is a key part of our economic strategy for Bolton. It’s gained a deserved reputation as the foodie event to visit in the North West, and we’re very pleased to again have the support of our partners like the college.

“The festival brings in a significant number of visitors and it’s great that so many businesses came to find out how they could get involved.”

Principal at Bolton College, Marie Gilluley, added: “At Bolton College, we deliver a diverse range of courses and apprenticeships in catering and hospitality, everything from food preparation and cooking to food safety awards – so it was a natural decision for us to support the festival again this year.

“It provides a great opportunity for visitors to sample the local delights that Bolton has to offer. We are really looking forward to being part of the fun, as well as showcasing the exciting range of courses people can do in all subjects at Bolton College.”
