Get your PIPs out: Law firm offers help to Manchester victims of breast implant scandal

By Helen le Caplain

Thousands of Manchester women whose breast implants could cause serious health problems are being offered legal help by a North West law firm.

PIP Implant Advice, part of the Tandem Law legal firm, are urging women concerned about breast implants to come forward as they may be eligible for compensation claims.

The French company PIP sold cosmetic surgery procedures to 47,000 women across the UK, which contain an industrial grade silicone that could leak or rupture and endangering the person’s health.

Michael Fong, Head of Technical and Legal Practice said: “Thousands of women across the UK have placed their faith in a product which turned out to be defective.

“For instance, they thought it contained medical grade silicone – not silicone normally used in industry. These products were clearly substandard – the anxiety caused by the potential effects to health need not be imagined.

“These women deserve justice from the surgeons and clinics who treated them.”

The UK government has urged women to have the implants removed, despite other country’s insisting that women are safe as the implants pose no long-term health risks.

The NHS will not remove them for free – only when it is clinically necessary – and a major review of cosmetic surgery has been planned following the PIP scandal.
