Woman hospitalised after being run over in Manchester – Great Ancoats Street and Oldham Road closed

A woman has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked down in Manchester city centre.

Shortly after 1.20pm today police were called to Great Ancoats Street near the Central Retail Park following reports of a collision, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Police found that a Volkswagen Polo had been in collision with a pedestrian, a woman believed to be in her 30s.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The woman has been taken to hospital where her condition is described as being serious.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in custody.”

Great Ancoats Street is closed in both directions between the Central Retail Park and Oldham Road.
