A woman who was run over on the outskirts of Manchester city centre has died today.
Helen Naylor, 34, of Merseyside, was rushed to hospital after being struck down by a VW Polo on Great Ancoats Street, near the Central Retail Park, at around 1,20pm yesterday.
Emergency crews attended the scene and battled to save Ms Naylor who suffered serious injuries, but she tragically died today – a man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving remains in custody for questioning.
Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Lee Westhead, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision or has any information about any of those involved to come forward and speak to us.
“An investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit has been launched and the family are being supported by one of our Family Liaison Officers.”
The incident forced police to shut Great Ancoats Street and Oldham Road during the Christmas shopping rush.
Officers are continuing their investigations and anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741.
