A woman is being probed by officers on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death during a fatal domestic incident in Cheadle last night.

Emergency services attended a home on John Avenue shortly after 11.30pm and found a 32-year-old man with serious wounds – he was taken to hospital where he tragically died.

Police arrested a 41-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, and she will remain in custody throughout the day as detectives begin their investigations.

Chief Superintendent Chris Sykes, divisional commander of Stockport, said: “Sadly a young man has died and I want to reassure his loved ones as well as his neighbours, friends and the local community that we will do everything we can to establish how and why he came to be injured.

“A woman has been arrested and will be interviewed throughout the day by my staff.

“We do not believe there to be a threat to anyone else but will have officers in and around the area if anyone wants to come and talk to us.”

A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 9745 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
