Manchester boxing icon Ricky Hatton ‘proud’ after revealing set to become father for third time

By Ed Owen

Manchester boxing legend Ricky Hatton is set to become a dad for the third time, it was revealed yesterday.

The former world champion light-welterweight announced the news over his twitter page, informing his followers that his partner Jenifer Dooley is pregnant.

The new arrival will be Hatton’s second child with Jennifer following the birth of daughter Millie in September 2011 – he also has another son, Campbell, from a previous relationship.

The Hyde-born boxing legend tweeted: “Proud to say Jennifer is pregnant with our second child together.

“If this little one is half as good as Millie Meg & Campbell we’ll be very happy.”

News of a new baby will undoubtedly be good news for the Hitman, who retired for a final time last November after losing in his comeback fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko.

The 34-year-old was stopped in the eight-round at a packed Manchester Arena after suffering a shuddering left hook to the body.

Hatton had earlier retired after suffering a traumatic second round defeat to Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao in 2008 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

He eventually retired with a ring record of 45 wins –32 by way of knockout – and three losses, two of them against all-time greats Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Now he works as a promoter for his own company – Hatton Promotions – managing up-and-coming Mancunian talent including world interim super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg and British super-featherweight champion Anthony Crolla.

The news of Hatton’s new arrival will no doubt reassure his many fans across the world that after multiple personal problems, his private life is now settled.
