A man has been charged following two sex attacks on Manchester women in the same night.

Brian Paul Ferguson, 44, of Barmouth Street, Beswick has been charged with two counts of attempted sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

At 6.15pm on Tuesday a man approached a woman from behind on Trinity Way in Salford.

He grabbed her, pushed her to the ground and began to drag her to a nearby field but fortunately she managed to break free and got away.

Just over an hour later a 22-year-old woman was walking along Water Street, Castlefield.

She noticed a man on the street so turned onto Liverpool Road and walked towards Deansgate where she realised she was being followed.

When she got on to Southern Street she was grabbed from behind and dragged down the road before a passer-by shouted at the offender and he ran off.

Ferguson is due before Manchester City Magistrates Court today.
