‘Over-the-top’ violent mugger bites man’s ear in Pendleton street robbery

By Dean Wilkins

A violent street mugger who bit the ear of a man in Pendleton is being hunted by police.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked along Fitzwarren Street last Thursday after a man ran up behind up him, punched him in the back of the head and demanded he handover of his possessions.

The victim ran and shouted for him but his wallet was taken from his back pocket and the offender bit his right ear.

PC Michelle Ingham, of Swinton Volume Crime Team, said: “The level of violence used in this mugging was completely over-the-top.

“It is bad enough robbing a man in the first place, but to bite his ear when he already had hold of his wallet is much worse.”

The victim was treated at a nearby hospital and described his attacker as white, with a wide build, a possible shaved head, 20 to 25year old and wearing a black hooded top with pocket on the front and blue jeans. He spoke with a deep voice.

PC Ingham added: “Clearly, the mugger is desperate and dangerous and I want to reassure the victim and the wider community that we are determined to catch the man responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Swinton Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 5250 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
