Simon Cowell believes Manchester could be home to the first ‘star’ found in year’s Britain’s Got Talent, following auditions this weekend.

The 52-year-old music mogul made the announcement on Twitter, after kick-starting the new series in Salford Quays.

“First day of auditions, think we found a star but won’t give it away,” he tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

Cowell also spoke about new judge David Walliams in the same tweet, stating that the comic is ‘insane’.

Walliams also appeared to enjoy his new role on the show, claiming he ‘couldn’t believe I am actually getting paid to have so much fun’, and seemed to get on well with Cowell.

“I think I have a new double act partner, Simon Cowell! I haven’t laughed so much in years,” he tweeted later on.

Manchester has proved a fertile ground for finding talent in the past on both Britain’s Got Talent and the X Factor, with stars such as Shane Ward, Misha B, Rowetta and the second series of BGT winner George Sampson.
