Diamond Jubilee: The Queen’s tour details announced for Manchester and Salford visit

The Queen is touring Manchester and Salford today and MM will be providing complete coverage throughout Her visit.

It is Her Majesty’s second event as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour and the Royal party will be heading to both cities as thousands are expected to turn out in celebration of 60 years on the throne.

The royal party arrive at Victoria Station in mid-morning before moving on to the Eye Hospital on Oxford Road.

Her Majesty will officially cut the ribbon on the multimillion pound refurbishment of Central Manchester hospitals and be welcomed by a specially-commissioned piece of music, composed by the Royal Northern College of Music and patients from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Her Majesty will then formally open MediaCityUK, in Salford Quays, around lunchtime. Crowds will gather at the piazza outside the studios and at the green in front of the University of Salford’s new campus.

Manchester town hall will host a jubilee feast with local community workers and volunteers.

Albert Square’s jubilee garden will greet the Royals before arriving at Manchester Central conference hall in the afternoon. A special urban garden party will send off the Queen before her return in May.
