Arsonists cause up to £500,000 damage in deliberate blaze at Stockport industrial estate

By Dean Wilkins

Arsonists who ignited a Stockport industrial estate last week have caused up to half a million pounds worth of damage, investigators claimed today.

The blaze at Omega Business Supplies, who sell toner and office equipment at a industrial complex at 260 Stockport Road West, Bredbury, was started at around midnight on July 18.

The huge fire spread to a company next door and firefighters battled to control the incident.

Detective Constable Matt Tarr said: “Having looked at the fire scene, it is clear to us that this fire was started deliberately.

“An initial assessment of the damage caused, as well as the loss of business brings the total monetary impact of this arson to somewhere between £250,000 to £500,000.

“I cannot understand how someone would want to needlessly cause so much damage.

“I urge any witnesses to come forward.”
