Coronation Street stars will swap the cobbles for a float as they take part in the ‘Best of British’ themed Manchester Pride parade this Saturday.

A number of the Corrie cast, including actresses Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre), Brook Vincent (Sophie Webster) and Alison King (Carla Connor), are excited about the event and are hoping to repeat their success of winning ‘Best Float’ for the second year running.

Brook said: “I had an absolute ball last year and think it’s a great chance to come together in an awesome city like Manchester and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life.

“It’s fantastic that Coronation Street is supporting Pride yet again and I’m very proud to be portraying a lesbian character on screen.”

Clare Wade, second assistant director at ITV, added to Brook’s praise for the event.

She said: “It is a privilege to be the lead float in the parade again this year and it is a symbol of how we at ITV wholeheartedly and proudly support diversity not only in the workplace but everywhere.”

An ITV spokesman remained tight-lipped about the outfits the cast will wear, merely stating: “We will have to see on the day.”
