Firefighters are warning people to avoid areas surrounding a Cheetham Hill warehouse after a severe fire ravaged the building.
Around 20 emergency staff tackled the large rubbish fire which happened inside the building just after 12pm today.
Smoke was seen billowing out of the roof but crews managed to control the blaze and reopened surrounding streets.
Station manager Ian Duckworth said: “When we arrived there was a large amount of smoke swirling around due to the warm weather conditions. We had firefighters at either end of the building trying to stop the fire spreading and conditions were tough due to the heat.
“We’ve had to rotate firefighters to avoid exhaustion but they quickly got the fire surrounded and managed to bring it under control.”
Crews are expected to remain on the scene overnight to oversee the dampening down process.
