Bolton has something to Kro about after top Manchester bar joins Food and Drink Festival line-up

By Claire Holden

Top Manchester bar Kro will be serving up something special to Boltonians next month after joining the town’s Food and Drink Festival line-up.

The award-winning Danish bar is another boost for the festival, which attracts thousands of visitors each year thanks to a successful cocktail of celebrity chefs, quality traders and family entertainment.

Also starring at this year’s event are The Great British Bake Off judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, and chefs James Martin and Jean Christophe-Novelli.

Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines – who has a restaurant at the Abode Hotel in Manchester – will launch the festival.

A host of top chefs will also be doing free cookery demos at Bolton Market and The Market Place Shopping Centre

Other highlights include a gala dinner with baker Hollywood, a speciality market in Victoria Square and local, regional, and specialist traders.

Kro is a popular establishment in Manchester, with four bars and restaurants across the city.

It is run by father and son team Borge and Mark Ruby who come from Denmark.

Mark said: “We will be bringing a selection of locally brewed ales to Bolton Food and Drink festival, to highlight the best that the region can offer in beers and ales.

“We will also be showcasing a selection of real ciders for guests to try and taste. This is the real deal, nothing mass produced here. We see the Bolton Food and Drink Festival as a great way to show people what great local produce is available on their doorstep.”

The addition of Kro to the festival mix has been welcomed by council chiefs.

Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “It’s a good quality addition complementing the food festival nicely, and should attract even more people to Bolton.”

The word ‘kro’ is Danish for ‘pub’.

The beer and cider festival will be located in a marquee on Corporation Street from 12-7pm on Friday and Saturday, and 12-6pm on Sunday and Monday. Access to the marquee is free.

Tickets for events are available from The Albert Halls box office on 01204 334400 or from www.boltonfoodanddrinkfestival.com
