Wigan woodland body: Three arrested on suspicion of murder

Three people are being questioned by police on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered in Wigan woodland, yesterday.

The men aged 19, 21 and 24 remain in custody after police were called to a large open area off Bickershaw lane when two walkers came across the abandoned corpse at 9.20am Sunday March 25.

The man has not yet been formally identified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out today, 26 March 2012, to establish the cause of death.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Chadwick, of the Major Incident Team, said: “We have launched a murder investigation into the circumstances leading up to and surrounding this man’s death.

“The identity of this person and the cause of death are not yet known.

“There are extra patrols in the area and this will continue over the next few days. I would encourage anyone with information or concerns to talk to us.”
