The former choirmaster of a prestigious Manchester music school was today jailed for six years for sexually abusing an ex-pupil.

Michael Brewer, 68, was convicted of five counts of sexually assaulting Francis Andrade, but cleared of her rape.

She committed suicide just days after giving evidence at the trial.

Brewer’s ex-wife Hilary was found guilty of one count of indecent assault and was today jailed for 21 months at Manchester Crown Court.

The three months that the pair have already served in custody will be taken into account with their sentence.
