Try us, we’re free: FirstGroup slash bus prices and celebrate with voucher giveaway in Manchester city centre

By Jess Phillips

Peeved bus users and public transport avoiders are being enticed to take advantage of cheaper fares after FirstGroup handed out free tickets in Manchester city centre today.

Staff are marching around Manchester to let customers know about the reduced fares with selected FirstDay tickets down from £4.50 to £3.90 and FirstWeek tickets down from £18 to £13.

The group hope the vouchers will encourage non-bus users to try out the service when going to work, shopping, meeting friends or just getting out and about.

Phil Williams, Head of Marketing said: “First has responded to customer feedback and introduced new lower fares for people in Manchester and Oldham.”

Mr Williams said that while this is good for existing customers, the group also hope that it may encourage more people to give the bus a try as a cheaper and easier alternative to taking the car into the city.

He said: “Around Christmas time it’s also a great way for people to travel anywhere within the M60-enjoying a drink in the run up to Christmas or an easier way to beat the crowds to the shops.

“We hope people make the most of new lower fares.”
