Best of Wigan’s business recognised by council at annual Good Trader awards ceremony

By Colin Henrys

The best businesses in Wigan were recognised at an awards ceremony in the town last week.

Wigan Council has the borough’s top 40 businesses signed up to its Good Trader scheme and each were presented with an award for excellence in customer service.

Special presentations were also made to the Good Trader of the Year Wigan, Good Trader of the Year Leigh and the Best Newcomer won by Hobson’s Roofcare, Atherton Tiling Solutions and Brian King Flooring respectively.

David Hobson, of Hobson’s Roofcare, believes joining the scheme has had a positive effect on his company.

“The scheme gives customers peace of mind; knowing that every business enrolled is accountable to Wigan Trading Standards and has committed to dealing fairly and honestly with their customers,” he said.

“Since joining in 2008, we’ve generated a lot of custom – allowing our business to grow.”

The businesses were judged on both the quality and volume of customer feedback generated over the past year and their contribution to providing a high-quality service.

Councillor David Molyneux, deputy leader of Wigan Council, said: “I’d like to thank and congratulate all those involved for setting such a high benchmark for best practice in Wigan Borough.

“These awards are a fantastic way of supporting our local businesses through recognising and rewarding those who demonstrate exemplary workmanship and excellent customer service.”
