Lord Alan Sugar will be one of the ‘stars’ of the first Greater Manchester Fringe Festival starting in July 2012.
The entrepreneur, will be portrayed in the world premiere of a brand new play called Together In Electric Dreams.
The play, written by Daniel Thackery from Oldham, was specially commissioned by the Lass O’Gowrie for the festival and focuses on a meeting between outspoken Sugar and Sir Clive Sinclair in a restaurant in 1986.
The meeting of these two Titans of the 1980s computer scene was when Sugar’s company Amstrad bought out Sinclair’s Spectrum, which had been the world’s best-selling computer.
Daniel, who appeared in the award-winning “Say Can Blues”, plays Sir Clive in a script packed full of incredible detail because it is based on extensive research and interviews with people that worked for both men.
He said: “Alan Sugar and Clive Sinclair are two modern-day icons of British business and technology, and the moment when the former swooped in to save the latter from ruin is an historic but little commented-on encounter.
“Hopefully, as we play out the drama of Sir Alan and Sir Clive, we’ll provide a flashback to an extraordinary time and do justice to two men who captured the spirit of the age – all on the 30th anniversary of Sir Clive’s landmark invention, the ZX Spectrum.”
