The family of an elderly woman who died after she was struck by a motorbike in Sale paid tribute to her yesterday.

Nora Higgins, 88, from Sale Moor, Greater Manchester, was hurt in the collision in Dane Road at about 5.20pm on Saturday.

She was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries but died shortly afterwards.

Her family said she was a doting mother of three and had five grandchildren.

“Nora was a devoted mother to Rosaleen, Mary and Thomas and a dearly loved grandmother to Catherine, Elizabeth, Joseph, Claire and Theresa,” they said.

Nora, who was born in County Roscommon in the west of Ireland had spent many years in retirement helping Irish Community Care after a busy working life.

Father Keith Butterworth from Holy Family Catholic Church in Sale said she was a regular at their masses and will be missed.

“Nora was a very quiet, private person who I would see cycling around the area all the time,” he said.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and anyone with information should phone police on 0161 8566173 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
