Spikey signs ‘One Bolton’ pledge

By Hannah Ingram

Bolton comedian Dave Spikey has this week signed the ‘One Bolton’ pledge, which celebrates community solidarity, while still recognising diversity.

Dave is the first celebrity to sign in person and confirm his commitment to the pledge.

A number of Bolton celebrities have also already signed the ‘One Bolton’ pledge online, including BBC Radio One DJ Sara Cox, and boxer Amir Khan.

The pledge offers people a way to demonstrate their commitment to Bolton as a welcoming and tolerant town.

It states: “We celebrate the diversity of Bolton and unite to create ‘One Bolton’, recognising differences, celebrating communities and commit to encouraging harmony.”

Dave said: “Bolton is a friendly and welcoming place, where people always look on the bright side and are ready to have a laugh and help each other out.”

“I always feel proud to say I’m a Boltonian and am delighted to sign this pledge,” he added. “It’s the people that make a town and an area special.”

Councillor Rosa Kay, Bolton Council Executive Member for HR and Diversity added: “Bolton is a town with a proud history of welcoming new communities and celebrating diversity.”

She is encouraging all Bolton residents to stand up and be counted by signing the pledge and celebrating all that is great about the town.

Amy Thompson, 33, who often visits Bolton to shop with her friends, said: “Bolton is a fantastic place with an amazing variety of people.

“The fact that we have a pledge for Boltonians to sign shows how much people love this town.”

John Davies, 45, a retail worker in the town, said: “I love Dave Spikey’s work – it signifies the best of Bolton.”

The pledge is directly linked to the Big Bolton Fund (BBF) and encourages supporters of ‘One Bolton’ to pledge money to the fund, which will be used to support local community programmes across the borough.

Residents can show their support by texting PLEDGE to 70007.

Texts cost £3 plus the cost of a standard message, with £2.55 being donated directly to the BBF.
