Stockport workspace facilities still attracting new firms despite economic downturn

By Ian Silvera

Stockport Council’s workspace facilities are bucking the trend by attracting new companies.

New businesses have chosen to make Houldsworth Mill Business and Arts Centre and Stockport Business Incubator, located in Reddish, their home because of the excellent facilities and flexibility offered at both sites.

The businesses benefit from measures designed to help them to focus on developing and establishing their businesses including easy in, easy out terms, secure 24 hour access, free parking, no legal costs or landlord’s insurance and regular free business networking events.

The centres are managed by Evans Easyspace, the UK’s leading provider of new and managed workspaces.

Coun Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development & Regeneration, said: “A key Council priority is assisting small business to thrive within the borough.

“The centres are an ideal home for businesses offering flexible licenses giving them the option of changing the space they occupy quickly if their circumstances change.”

He added: “From the perspective of cost control alone, it makes no sense to lease space you don’t require just in case it might be needed in the future which makes the centres ideal for businesses.”

Existing Houldsworth Mill tenant Scott Mills of Avalanche Creative Ltd, who has been in the centre for eight years, said: “Houldsworth Mill offers a professional, secure and flexible work environment which has the added benefit of being part of a thriving business community.”

The centre still has a few business spaces available to let ranging from 88 sq ft to 1200 sq ft.

Houldsworth Mill is a Grade II listed building which offers a characterful and historic working environment, whilst also offering reliable and cutting edge ICT and business support services.

The Incubator is the perfect base for ambitious start-up and high growth knowledge based companies.

It is located just 1.5 miles from the centre of Stockport the premises offer an accessible, modern, office environment which is equally well suited to entrepreneurs as well as established businesses.

Centre Manager Ken Hill said: “Working in conjunction with Stockport Council it’s very encouraging to see that we are appealing to such a diverse and exciting range of businesses.”

He added: “The facilities in Stockport boast a range of high quality offices which offer a variety of additional services within a vibrant business community environment.”
