Backflippers and edge clingers welcome as Spinningfields Ice Rink brings festive fun to Manchester

By Mancunian Matters staff

The glorious architecture of Manchester city centre is once again providing the perfect backdrop for Spinningfields’ Ice Rink, which is being launched in tremendous fashion tonight.

Despite the cold snap edging ever nearer, rivers and lakes are not quite at the perfect ice skating level but fear not as eager veterans – or newbies who prefer to go round in circles and cling on the edge – can once again show what they’re made of.

The world-famous Halle Orchestra will be on hand to caress skaters into the festive feeling and Twizzles Skate Group will make backflips and twirls look all too easy.

The performances kick-off at 6pm and guests will be able to don their skates from 7pm while The Ski Club serve up an array merry delights.

So be sure to head on down, but MM recommends that you save the nearby Christmas Markets’ mulled wine until after you’re all skated out.
