Thieves swipe £35,000 car from Paul Scholes after Manchester United ace nips inside while defrosting windows

By Dean Wilkins

Daring opportunists targeted Manchester United hero Paul Scholes, stealing his 4×4 car as he defrosted the windows yesterday.

Leaving the engine running and nipping back inside your home is a risk most people take each wintry morning, and for Scholes it proved a costly gamble as his grey Chevrolet Captiva Estate was swiped from his driveway shortly before 8am.

The 38-year-old footballer, who lives in Greenfield, Oldham, came out of his home to find that thieves had driven off in his £35,000 car .

“Police are investigating after a car was stolen while the owner was defrosting the vehicle,” a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said.

“The grey Chevrolet Estate was stolen from the drive of a house in the Greenfield area of Oldham between 7.45am and 8am on Monday.

“Inquiries to locate the car are ongoing.”

The former England ace has not been the only culprit of the targeted attack this winter as officers continue to urge people not to leaving their cars running and unattended while defrosting windows.

It only takes a second for a thief to pounce.
