Les Gunn to spearhead development of Manchester’s award-winning gay, lesbian and bi-sexual radio station Gaydio

By Kathryn Cummings

Award winning Manchester radio station, Gaydio, has appointed experienced radio professional Les Gunn as Head of Business Development from the beginning of May.

Les has worked within the industry as a radio presenter, voiceover and sales consultant for over 20 years, at stations across the North East, North West, Midlands and Wales.

He will be heading-up the business development function to drive forward the sales and sponsorship operations side of the station.

Speaking on his new role, Les, said: “As a gay man, I’m proud to be representing a station that not only has a fantastic sound, but a totally professional approach to the radio business and it’s really making its mark after less than a year on air.

“We have a wonderful demographic of people that advertisers will want to get to know more about, not only in Manchester, but around the country.

“From the conversations I have already had, this year is looking like it will be a fantastic one for the station.”

Les is also pleased to be teaming up with his old work colleague Nicksy, they both previously worked for TFM in the North East of England in the 1990’s.

He said: “We go back a long way and both feel that Gaydio has incredible potential in the current radio market place.”

Gaydio presenter, Rowetta Idah, is thrilled that Les will be joining the team. She said: “Les Gunn joining Gaydio is a great appointment, as well as being great at his job, he is a joy to have around, a fantastic addition to our new and exciting station.”

Gaydio is the UK’s first and only full-time FM radio station for lesbian, gay, trans-gender and bisexuals. It started broadcasting last summer and has already gained significant popularity.

The station broadcasts contemporary pop and dance music alongside engaging speech content during the day, with some specialist programming in the evening and at weekends.

In an annual poll this year conducted amongst the readers of the Pink Paper, Gaydio’s afternoon presenter Nicksy was awarded the accolade of ‘Best Radio Show’, against strong competition from Scott Mills, Chris Moyles (BBC Radio 1) and Chris Evans (BBC Radio 2).

You can listen to Gaydio through 88.4FM in Greater Manchester or through their website www.gaydio.co.uk
