Hollyoaks street party: Cast tuck in for Big Jubilee Lunch and welcome Manchester communities

By Kirsty Plowman

The Hollyoaks cast succumbed to Jubilee fever when they took an uncharacteristic break from filming to enjoy a royal themed street party yesterday.

The cast munched on sandwiches and cakes for a Big Jubilee Lunch (BJL) outside The Dog to encourage communities to come together to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this Sunday.

The BJL is part of a programme of events to celebrate the Jubilee with Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall as its patron.

PJ Brennan who plays Doug Carter in the show said: “This is a great way to connect with your neighbours, friends or family to celebrate such an iconic occasion.

“Don’t be shy, knock on your neighbours doors and ask them for lunch.”

Characters Lacey and Ash Kane aka Georgia Bourke and Holly Weston sported the official charity t-shirt being sold to raise money for BJL and Fields in Trust.

The initiative led by the Eden Project promotes community spirit encouraging neighbourhoods to come together to share lunch, friendship and fun.

This year marks the fourth year of the Lottery funded initiative which last year saw around two million communities get together.

The charity t-shirt costing £8 is available from Asda stores nationwide.

BJL free information packs are available from www.thebiglunch.com or by calling 0845 850 8181.
