Boiler worker, 32, bailed over death of two-year-old toddler Jamie Heaton in Oldham explosion

By Dean Wilkins

A man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following an explosion in Oldham was bailed yesterday.

The 32-year-old – who was arrested in London and brought back to Manchester – is thought to have fitted a boiler in a property on Buckley Street just days before the horrific blast.

Two-year-old Jamie Heaton was killed in the explosion and another man, aged 27, remains in Wythenshawe Hospital with 80% burns and is in serious, but stable, condition.

A thorough search and rescue operation is continuing at the street as structural engineers continue to identify which homes are safe to allow families to return home.

Just after the incident, hundreds of residents from the Shaw area were evacuated from the homes and took refuge in a nearby school and shopping complex.

The 32-year-old man, who is not a resident of the street, was bailed until August 9 pending further inquiries.
