Millie Thompson died one week ago at Ramillies Hall Nursery, Cheadle Hulme, shortly after lunchtime after being rushed to hospital.

Investigations into the youngster’s death are ongoing as police try to piece together the events leading up to the tragic event.

Millie’s family said: “Our much loved and cherished beautiful daughter has died in circumstances that as yet remain unclear and the current media speculation and certain public comments that we have seen are impacting on our grief.

“As a family we are struggling to come to terms with this devastating news and we ask that our privacy at this time be respected while the investigation continues.”

The girl was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Detective Inspector Matt Hope, of Stockport CID, said: “A comprehensive investigation has commenced and we will review every aspect of this tragic event so that we, and the family, can eventually understand what happened.

“Our thoughts are with the family, and they remain at the forefront of everything we do, as we try to piece together the precise sequence of events which led to the death of their daughter. A detailed report will be submitted to HM Coroner once the investigation is complete.”
