MM’s resident foodie is back with another of her low-budget dishes. This week she brings you the Oriental-style turkey salad – perfect for your Christmas leftovers!
Oriental-Style Turkey Salad
A good few tablespoons of Soy Sauce
1 tsp of Chinese five-spice
1 tsp ginger
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp vegetable oil
A handful of frozen peas
1-2 Spring onions
1 crushed clove of garlic
Salt and pepper
We’re being bombarded with Christmas recipes at the moment, but we’re all hoping we won’t actually have to cook anything, am I right?
Well, here’s the perfect dish for Boxing Day to make turkey slightly more bearable and you can rustle it up in no time before dashing out the door to the pub.
When I made this, I actually used leftover cooked chicken but it’s mostly the same, you just might need some extra soy sauce or oil on the turkey if it’s drying out too much.
This dish is so quick that it’s probably best to prepare the salad/noodles/rice or whatever you plan to have it with first.
Then, simply heat some vegetable oil in a pan and chop the turkey, spring onions and crush the garlic and throw them all in the pan along with the ginger, peas, five-spice and soy sauce – all you’re looking to do here is heat it all through and cook the spices so it’ll only take 2-3 minutes depending on how hot the pan is.
Feel free to add any other leftover veg that you may want, some carrots might work well. Be liberal with the soy sauce and make sure to put some on your side dish too.
Season the turkey mixture with salt and pepper and drizzle it lightly with the sesame oil. The sesame oil is very rich so don’t put too much on but it will give the dish a nice bit of depth.
Then if you like, drizzle over some honey and serve straight away.
