MM’s footage of Bobby Charlton busting some of his finest dance moves to Beyonce went viral and was seen the world over. It featured on ITV news, BBC’s Football Focus and Sky.
They’ve been split up since 2009, but Manchester’s most famous sons, the Gallagher brothers and Oasis, continued to hit the headlines in 2011.
The scenes of rioting and looting in August were some of the most shocking England has seen in a long time. Unfortunately, Manchester was one of the worst affected. MM were the first publication in Manchester to report on scene as the violence erupted, and you can read that here.
Our news staff remained in the city centre to cover the events throughout the evening and some of the footage that we caught was seen the world over after being picked up by Sky News and the BBC.

While the riots may have been one of Manchester’s darkest moments in recent years, the community solidarity that came in the days following it was surely more than anyone could have expected. Crowds took to the streets with brooms in hand and cleaned up the city so fast that by the following evening boarded up windows were the only sign that anything had ever happened. All those involved in the clean-up proved Manchester to be the city we all knew it was, despite the violence of a small number.
A Level results day will be the most memorable day of the year for eighteen-year-olds across Manchester. We provided piece of mind for students across Manchester, with our guide to clearing, and a guide to the alternatives to university.
