Police are investigating another racist allegation at Stamford Bridge after a brutish Chelsea fan was photographed making monkey gestures towards Manchester United players.
The mindless ‘supporter’ was captured during last night’s 5-4 thriller in the Capital One Cup – and comes days after two Chelsea players were purportedly the subject of racial abuse by referee Mark Clattenburg.
And Chelsea insist they are taking the incident very seriously and will be opening investigations into the case.
A statement from the club read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm we are investigating an incident involving a member of the crowd at last night’s game against Manchester United.
“The club will be examining all available footage and asks anyone who can identify the individual to contact the club.
“Chelsea FC is committed to removing all forms of discrimination and if we have sufficient evidence we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution.”
The incident is yet another racial saga to surround the West London club after John Terry’s banning by the FA for abusing Anton Ferdinand, Clattenburg’s ‘inappropriate language’ used towards Juan Mata and John Obi Mikel and the life-time banning of a fan who admitted to abusing former striker Didier Drogba.
