Manchester City’s squad boasts enough quality to win with whatever starting 11 they choose, insists David Platt as the Blues brace themselves to cope without Sergio Aguero and the Toure brothers.
City’s hero striker limped off with a hamstring injury during their 3-0 victory over Stoke City yesterday and could face two weeks on the sidelines.
And with Yaya and Kolo Toure set to join Ivory Coast for the African Nations Cup, Platt admitted that City cannot dwell on missing players and must continue their chase of league leaders Manchester United.
Platt said: “It is irrelevant whether Yaya disappears or not, the challenge is to keep winning football matches.
“We have a squad of players – we are missing Aguero for the weekend – that we will have to choose 11 from.
“Whichever 11 we put on the park we would expect to go and take the points.”
Their Argentinian talisman striker confidently converted a penalty to grab City’s third goal and all three points against Tony Pulis’ men.
International teammate Pablo Zabaleta and Edin Dzeko had already given the Blues a two-goal cushion before Aguero’s hamstring ended his game.
Roberto Mancini’s men now face Watford during the weekend’s FA Cup third round fixtures and Aguero is a doubt for their journey to Arsenal in 11 days’ time.
