Withington housewife Maria Webster was toasting a money-can’t-buy day out last week as she enjoyed ringside seats for the London 2012 Olympics’ one-year-to-go celebrations.
After winning a Eurostar competition, the mother-of-four rubbed shoulders with 2012 chairman Lord Sebastian Coe and Olympic silver medallist Colin Jackson in an action packed day in the capital.
While London was awash with countdown celebrations Mrs Webster – one of 20 Eurostar winners – saw first-hand how the 2012 venues are progressing before enjoying dinner overlooking the Olympic Stadium.
And after being part of the celebrations last week, the 35-year-old admitted it had been a day never to forget.
“It was a good day and it was really nice to go down to London for it all,” said Mrs Webster. “I really enjoyed it.
“It was a good experience to see the Olympic Stadium and to just have a really good day experiencing everything.”
After being whisked around the city and the Olympic site, Mrs Webster enjoyed an after-dinner speech from hurdler Jackson, regaling his Games memories.
And having spent the day surrounded by all things Olympics Mrs Webster admitted her appetite for next year’s Games had been well and truly whet.
“It was a great day and I am definitely looking forward to the Olympics now having seen the stadium and Colin Jackson,” she added.
