Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov believes his side showed glimpses of their true potential as they beat Doncaster Rovers 3-1 to reach the FA Cup third round.
Robbie Blake put Rovers in front, but Reece Wabara equalised before half-time and Matt Derbyshire hit two second-half goals to seal a surprise win.
Latics lost to third-placed Doncaster when they met in the league in midweek, but Dickov felt his side showed they are capable of beating anyone on their day.
“First and foremost we are in the draw for the third round but the way we did it, especially in the second half, was pleasing,” he said.
“Our passing and attacking playing at times was fantastic as you saw for our third goal. That showed what a good performance it was, and in the second half I thought the boys were magnificent.
“The main reason why we won was because of the energy we showed in the last third as we got bodies into the box.
“When we play with that pace, enthusiasm and pass the ball like we did today, we are a very good team as we showed against one of the form teams in the division.”
“We have a lot of good players here. We just need to get it out of them on a consistent basis and not wait until they are under pressure to produce a performance like that.”
It is the second year in a row Latics have reached the third round of the FA Cup, after being knocked out by Liverpool in last season’s contest.
The win also means Oldham have won three of their last four matches in all competitions ahead of their visit to Colchester next Saturday.
