Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez was handed a triple boost today ahead of his side’s FA Cup third round tie with high-flying League One outfit Bournemouth.
New signings Angelo Henriquez and Roger Espinoza are in contention to make their Latics’ debuts while another loan star, Ryo Miyaichi, has returned from injury.
Henriquez was brought in on loan from Manchester United earlier this week as a goal scorer and Martinez feels his new striker will flourish at the DW.
“We’re really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential,” he told Sky Sports.
“Saturday will provide him with the perfect opportunity to begin his experiences on the pitch in English football.”
Struggling with their league form, Wigan have recorded one win – a 3-0 thrashing of Aston Villa – in their last eight games, and good cup run could be a welcome distraction.
The Latics were dumped out at this stage of the competition last year to Swindon Town, and Martinez is delighted the deal for Sporting Kansas City star Espinoza was confirmed.
“It is great to finally welcome Roger to Wigan and I know the supporters will give him a real Latics welcome,” he told the club’s website.
“Roger is so desperate to play as soon as he can that we hope to see him on the pitch on Saturday.
“He is an excellent talent and every time we have seen him play he has shown the desire that as a club we like to see from our players.”
The Spaniard is also set to welcome back Arsenal loan star Miyaichi from injury this weekend who has been out of action for weeks.
“Ryo has a chance for the FA Cup game. He is 80% of his full fitness and is joining the main group this week,” Martinez added.
“We hope he is going to be back very soon.”
